What certifications might I need for shifts?

To work through MyGig, you might be required to hold certain certifications or licences depending on the industry, type of role, and the business you work with.

Having the right certifications not only keeps you compliant with Australian workplace regulations but also increases your chances of being booked for more shifts.

Below is an overview of the most common certifications you may be asked to upload to your MyGig profile.

COVID-19 Vaccination Certificate

Some workplaces, particularly healthcare, aged care, or food service environments, may still require proof of COVID-19 vaccination.

You can access your certificate through Medicare or the MyGov app.

When uploading, make sure the document clearly shows your full name and vaccination status.

Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA)

Related article

If you work in hospitality, events, or venues serving alcohol, an RSA certificate is mandatory.

It proves that you understand how to serve alcohol safely and responsibly in line with state legislation.

Each Australian state and territory has its own RSA requirements and approved training providers, so be sure your certificate is valid for the state you’ll be working in.

Responsible Service of Gaming (RSG)

Related article

For roles in gaming venues, pubs, or clubs with poker machines, you’ll also need an RSG (sometimes called Responsible Conduct of Gambling).

It ensures you understand gambling regulations, harm minimisation, and how to support patrons safely.

Like RSA, RSG certificates are issued per state, so always check if yours is current and valid where you work.

First Aid Certificate

Related article

Many workplaces, especially in hospitality, tourism, construction, and childcare, value or require a First Aid certificate (HLTAID011 or equivalent).

It shows you’re trained to handle basic medical emergencies, injuries, or incidents until professional help arrives.

This certification usually expires after 3 years, though CPR components must be refreshed every 12 months.

Food Safety Supervisor Certificate

Related article

If you handle food in your job (cafés, restaurants, catering, food trucks, etc.), you may need a Food Safety Supervisor certificate.

This qualification proves you understand hygiene, contamination risks, and safe food handling practices.

Some states require specific accredited courses, so make sure your certificate meets local standards.

Working With Children Check

Related article

For any role involving children or minors, such as childcare, tutoring, sports, or events, you must hold a valid Working With Children Check (or Blue Card in QLD, Working With Vulnerable People card in ACT/TAS).

It’s a background screening process that ensures you’re cleared to work with children safely.

Your clearance usually lasts up to 5 years, depending on your state.
