Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA)

What it is?

The RSA is a mandatory qualification for anyone serving or supplying alcohol in Australia.

Why it’s needed?

It ensures you know how to serve alcohol safely and legally, prevent intoxication, and protect patrons and the community.

How to obtain it?

  1. Complete a recognised RSA training course from an approved provider in your state or territory.
  2. Training is usually online and takes around 4–6 hours.
  3. Once completed, you’ll receive a certificate (or in NSW, a competency card).

— Each state has its own approved RSA providers and rules. —

You can check the list here:

  • NSW: Liquor & Gaming NSW
  • VIC: VCGLR
  • QLD: RTO approved by OLGR
  • WA: Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries
  • SA: Consumer and Business Services
  • TAS: Liquor and Gaming Branch

How to renew it?

RSA certifications generally don’t expire, but if you move to a new state, you may need to complete that state’s version.

How to upload it to MyGig?

  1. Go to Profile → Documents & Certifications.
  2. Click Upload certification → Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA).
  3. Attach your certificate or card image.
