How to cancel a shift? (as a worker)

Life happens

We understand that sometimes you need to cancel a shift last minute. If you do need to cancel, do so as early as possible. Do not contact the business to cancel your shift. Instead, use the MyGig app to cancel or get your shift covered as soon as possible.

Cancellation Policy

Walking off shifts

During a shift, the Business shouldn't need to wonder where you are. Disappearing for long stretches or walking off without checking with the Partner is considered a walk off, and may lead to a suspension, removal of future shifts, or potential deactivation from the platform.

Avoiding "walk offs" is easy: ensure your in-app tracking is enabled, keep your breaks to appropriate lengths, and update the onsite contact if you need to go offsite for any amount of time.

No-show to work

A no-show is not showing up to your booked shift and not cancelling ahead of time. It is also showing up to a shift with no intention of working, which includes messaging the Partner ahead of time to let them know you cannot stay due to an emergency; then asking for clock in and out codes and leaving.

No-shows are a serious offence because it hurts everyone. If you don’t show up and don’t cancel the shift, you’ll be suspended immediately and removed from future shifts.

Multiple no-shows in a short amount of time are penalised with long suspensions and potential deactivation from the platform.

If you have not arrived at the shift after 60 minutes of the start time you will be considered a no show in our system and will not qualify for any payments.

Late cancellations

Canceling a shift within 24 hours of the shift start time or after the shift has started is a late cancellation. Late cancellations leave little time for other workers to work the shift.

A late cancellation may lead to a suspension and removal of future shifts.

Missing your shift confirmation

We'll ask you to confirm your shift 48 hours before it starts. If you don’t confirm by 16 hours before the shift, you’ll be removed, and the shift will be a late cancel.

Free cancellations

After booking a shift, there is a 15-minute period to cancel the shift without any penalties. There is a timer for this period displayed on the shift details screen. The business may also cancel during this 15-minute grace period without penalties.

Please note that the 15-minute grace period does not apply to shifts that you book within one hour of the shift start time. With this in mind please make sure to only book and confirm these shifts if you are able to make it as the late cancellation policy will apply.

Deactivation

Your reliability makes MyGig a better platform for your fellow workers as well as businesses. Frequently policy violations may lead to permanent deactivation of your account.

Appeal Rules

We understand that some cancellations are unavoidable and our in-app appeal flow is designed to help us manage your requests. There are some rules to understand when appealing a suspension.

  1. We reserve the right to deny or approve any appeal for any reason.

We do our best to take into account your appeal, but abuse of appeals will not be tolerated.

  2. If you frequently appeal suspensions your appeals could start being automatically denied.

This process is meant to help workers who are doing the right thing. To avoid suspensions, do not book shifts you likely need to cancel and plan ahead for getting to shifts on time.

  3. Suspensions due to a no-shows have a low chance of being appealed.

Please make sure to cancel your shift even if it is last-minute. No-shows are the worst kind of suspension.

How do I start an appeal?

To start an appeal, go to the Open Shifts screen under the "Current suspension" section and press the blue "Appeal Suspension" link.

If you do not see this link, you are not allowed to appeal this suspension.

After clicking "Appeal Suspension" you'll be asked for details and then you'll be automatically notified when we've made our decision. It may take up to an hour to process your appeal.

Can I appeal an appeal decision?

No, once we inform you of a decision in the app, there are no further ways to appeal your suspension. Support can not overturn an appeal decision. You will be able to book shifts again once your suspension has ended.
